National solidarity with Cotecmar.

Companies in the defense sector express their solidarity with the Science and Technology Corporation for the Development of the Naval, Maritime and Fluvial Industry Cotecmar for the events that occurred yesterday.

This Wednesday, May 17, at 10:28 in the morning, an accident occurred on a barge that was undergoing maintenance work at the Cotecmar plant, located in the Mamonal industrial zone, in Cartagena. An explosion followed by a fire left five people dead and 16 evacuated.

Three bodies of the five reported have been identified by the competent authorities: Oscar Castro Morillo (RIP), Indupinturas, Manuel Montes Guardo (RIP), Cotecmar and Carlos Arturo Castro Ledesma (RIP), SENA apprentice, and the other two bodies They are in the identification process in Forensic Medicine.

Likewise, 16 people were evacuated for care in healthcare centers in the city and an attack on the shipyard in Cotecmar was ruled out.

The situation was controlled within the facilities of the plant in Mamonal, while the investigation is underway to determine the causes that produced this unfortunate event.

Cotecmar and all the companies that make up the Business and Social Defense Group-Gsed, deeply regret what happened and express their solidarity, accompaniment and support to the affected families.

At the same time, we make a special call to carry out all our tasks without omitting any security measure, no matter how small it may be. An unsafe act exposes us to an accident, results in risk and can cost people's lives and integrity.
