Carlos Holmes Trujillo García was born in Cartago (Valle del Cauca), on September 23, 1951.
He has a doctorate in Law and Political Science from the University of Cauca, specialized in Criminal Law and Criminology at the same academic center, and obtained a master's degree in International Business at the Sofia University, Tokyo (Japan).
He is married to Alba Lucía Anaya and is the father of four children.
He has been Consul of Colombia in Tokyo, Chargé d'Affaires of Colombia in Japan, Secretary of the Treasury of Cali, President of Fedemetal, Mayor of Cali (the first of the city by popular election), founder and first president of the Colombian Federation of Municipalities , Ambassador on Special Mission to the United Nations (UN) and member of the National Constituent Assembly of 1991.
Likewise, he held the positions of Minister of Education, High Commissioner for Peace, Ambassador to the Organization of American States (OAS), Minister of the Interior, Minister Delegate of Presidential Functions and Ambassador to Austria.
Trujillo also served as Ambassador Permanent Representative of Colombia to the UN agencies based in Vienna, Ambassador of Colombia to the Russian Federation, Sweden and Belgium, and Head of Mission to the European Union.
In addition, he held a university professorship and was a candidate for the Vice Presidency and a pre-candidate for the Presidency of the Republic.
He is the author, among other works, of El Compromiso, El Voto Programmático and Let's Save Colombia.
On August 7, 2018, at the beginning of the Government of President Iván Duque, he was appointed as Minister of Foreign Affairs.
