Generating synergies between the military and private industries that strengthen the national economy is the main objective of the meeting of the private industry and the Defense Sector 'An alliance for productive transformation', which will be held on August 24 and 25 at the Naval Club from Cartagena.
The activity, organized by the Ministry of National Defense in association with the National Department of Planning and with the collaboration of the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Tourism, Procolombia, Bancoldex and the Productive Transformation Program (PTP), will allow strategic alliances to be strengthened to the development of products and processes that meet the needs of military, technological and commercial development, and generate productive chains that contribute to the development of the country in the post-conflict, which will impose new tasks and opportunities for the military industry.
The President of the Republic, Juan Manuel Santos, will host the meeting, which will bring together more than 400 Colombian industrialists, investment banks, international certifiers, as well as potential international buyers and suppliers of recognized companies in the Defense Sector, among which stand out Cotecmar, Indumil, the Colombian Aeronautical Industry Corporation (CIAC), the Logistics Agency of the Military Forces and Codaltec.
The defense industry, brought together in the Social and Business Group of the Defense Sector (GSED), was positioned in 2014 as the ninth largest business group in the country, with operational income of $6.6 billion pesos (a sum equivalent to 0.9 percent percent of GDP), generating direct effects in boosting other economic sectors, such as metalworking, electrical and plastics, among others.
